    the spyware doctor fails to execute because it has to do an update before it can run. This malware “online protection tool” is preventing the update to happen. it is preventing other AV programs form updating. SO WHAT DO I DO NOW, other than a destructive restore.

    You have to kill malicious processes first. You can use Process Explorer http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/ProcessExplorer.zip instead of Task Manager
