How to manually remove OneStep Search

To get rid of spyware such as OneStep Search you need to remove processes, search and delete registry keys, DLL and other OneStep Search related files from your computer.

  1. Uninstall OneStep Search from Control Panel
    Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Double click to uninstall.
  2. End these OneStep Search processes:
    onestep.exe
    osopt.exe
    uninstall.exe
    upgrade.exe
    Au_.exe

    To stop processes press Ctrl + Alt + Del or click Start > Run > type "taskmgr". Select malicious process in the list and click "End Process" button.
  3. Unregister OneStep Search DLL files:
    onestep.dll
    To unregister DLL click Start > Run > type "regsvr32 /u PATH_TO_FILE/FILE.dll"
  4. Delete OneStep Search registry entries: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\OneStep
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OneStep
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\OneStep Service
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes

    To open registry editor click Start > Run > type "regedit".
    Warning! Manual registry entries editing may cause damage to your system.
    Download Uniblue RegistryBooster 2010 to scan for registry errors.
  5. Search and delete these OneStep Search related files:
    SystemDrive\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\foo\XPC.mfl
    SystemDrive\INSTALLED\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{C7E0B063-1DC2-4DD0-A502-1D67957B9ADE}\chrome\onestep.jar
    SystemDrive\INSTALLED\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{C7E0B063-1DC2-4DD0-A502-1D67957B9ADE}\chrome.manifest
    SystemDrive\INSTALLED\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{C7E0B063-1DC2-4DD0-A502-1D67957B9ADE}\defaults\preferences\prefs.js
    SystemDrive\INSTALLED\Mozilla Firefox\extensions\{C7E0B063-1DC2-4DD0-A502-1D67957B9ADE}\install.rdf
    ProgramFiles\OneStep\OneStep_deleted_\onestep.dll
    ProgramFiles\OneStep\onestep.dll
    SystemDrive\INSTALLED\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins\onestep.xml
    ProgramFiles\OneStep\home.js
