So I got hit with the AntiVir, but it won’t allow me to run any other programs, in fact I can’t even open my control panel and access my Add/Remove Programs function….I can’t run any antiviral software and it won’t let me edit my registry….

I got hit with Antivir yesterday, and it also wouldn’t let me run any programs other than Internet Explorer and Firefox. So I could look up info about how to clear the infection, but not actually run any of the programs that would do it. I was also blocked from trying to get rid of it manually. The only spyware software that I could get to work despite the infection was Spyware Doctor. I did what I had to and bought the license, despite mixed reviews on cnet. It mostly worked: though the infection has returned a couple of times, it is much less virulent. Now I can actually run other programs, so I’m scanning with multiple spyware programs — one doesn’t seem to be enough. Also, I may still have to edit the registry manually. Currently the only symptom is that it’s blocking all internet access, regardless of the browser (even Chrome and Safari).
